My curriculum project involved using blogging in a mathematics classroom. However, my students found blogging to be cumbersome and outdated. Another complaint that the students had was that they wanted pictures of the math problems. I would like to try creating a math lesson using VoiceThread so that the students can interact with each other as they solve different types of equations.

Hi Linda,
ReplyDeleteThanks for discussing your first year project with me. Here's what I remember from our discussion. Will you confirm or correct if I missed something.
You were using blogs for students to discuss math problems and proofs. You wanted them to use the blogs as a way of expressing the meta-processing they were using to solve problems and to deal with explanatory proofs.
In addition, you were teaching vocabulary specific to explanatory proofs.
You found that students weren't really engaging in the blogging because they wanted quicker responses. They wanted to text, twitter or IM, but that didn't work for you because there was no record of the discourse. You settled on emailing so that you could be involved as the teacher and also so that you could have a record of the way students were problem solving and learning/using the vocabulary.
Did I get the basic gist?
Thanks so much!
